Choice of food is very personal. It is applicable to everyone no matter the level of training, professional or otherwise. Some feel better and more energized with certain foods while others feel differently. Regardless of the fact, there are certain items that are important to perform better. Staying fueled for training at all ages is not a simple chart that can be common to all. Each one of us will have to make that chart as per our preferences and digestion. However, we will have to keep that chart within certain parameters to ensure healthy and balanced eating.
How Often To Eat
I have come across people who eat up to 8 times a day and others who just eat 2 times a day. Both are runners (hobby runners). We tried exchanging the diets but both failed to adopt. This is because no two humans are the same. We have to find the frequency keeping in view how energetic we feel. Some people feel lethargic even after a small meal and feel drained out. Some have an urge to go to the washroom every time they eat. Hence they do not feel the same as others who eat more often. Give yourself time to decide the frequency of meals in 24 hours. However, ensure you base your decision on energy levels and training effort. Never base this on to achieve faster results such as fat/ weight loss.
No matter in which form we want to eat or how we cook the food, it must be balanced. When we say balanced, we mean it must contain carbohydrates, proteins (calculate your protein requirement), fats, vitamins, minerals, and fiber. We may not be able to have the presence of everything in one meal, however over a period of 24 hours, we must ensure that we are meeting all requirements. One can ensure that after training, food such as high protein and carbohydrates may result in better results and quicker recovery. Hence the diet chart can be made catering to these needs.
Fresh Food Is The Best
Processed food has chemicals and preservatives the body is not happy with. Freshly cooked food has more nutrients and is always easy on digestion. Avoid eating packed food and ensure your cooking is done in such a way that it is able to retain most of the nutrients.
Whole Food Is A Must
In order to maintain a level of fitness, one has to continue the efforts in terms of training and food. If we chose a diet plan which we do not enjoy, we will not be able to stick to it. Hence, give yourself time to plan the diet chart which includes items that are healthy and at the same time tasty.
A Word From H2FCare
Training and fitness is a regular process. It is not possible to maintain and retain a level without making it part of our life. In a similar way, food choice and diet should also be adopted in such a way that a person is able to maintain the diet as part of life and not a struggle. You may have to do several ‘hit and trials’ to achieve the right balance of healthy and tasty food, but do not stop till you reach there. Make health a part of life by choice.
